Summary

My first ARC, yeah! Unfortunately, it was a mixed bag for me。 Firstly, while the cover is lovely there were some printing issues (i。e。 pages that were folded inside the book and therefore not cut properly, as well as various ink smears。 The book was still legible but it does rather ruin the esthetics。Second, while the prose was on the whole enjoyable, it would occasionally get bogged down in trivialities, making it hard going at times。Also the time jumps could get jarring at times。 I was expecti My first ARC, yeah! Or you'd go from plot➡daydream➡plot all within the same paragraph, with no clue that you'd changed back。Overall the book is enjoyable, but I'll echo other reviews that it couldn't have done with another editting pass。 Cut 100 pages, tighten things up and it would have been a smoother read。 。。。more

I’m a huge Kate Morton fan so was very excited to read her latest book。 It has a dual timeline running through, so easy to follow and three generations of women – Nora, Polly and Jess。 Unfortunately, I struggled with this book, I felt it dragged for the first half and I almost gave up。 I guessed the ending, though not the plot。 The second half was much more enjoyable and where things started to happen。 I just feel that the first half was padding out, it could have been cut in half。 But I didn’t I’m a huge Kate Morton fan so was very excited to read her latest book。 It has a dual timeline running through, so easy to follow and three generations of women – Nora, Polly and Jess。 Unfortunately, I struggled with this book, I felt it dragged for the first half and I almost gave up。 I guessed the ending, though not the plot。 The second half was much more enjoyable and where things started to happen。 I just feel that the first half was padding out, it could have been cut in half。 But I didn’t connect with any of the characters。 Nora was too good to be true, it was irritating, Jess was self-centred and headstrong and although I felt sorry for Polly, I did wish that she’d stand up for herself, especially as an adult。 I would rate this book 3 stars。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 This book seemed interesting, but it was tough to finish。 A lot of the information just kept being repeated。 To the point where I think this 500+ page book could've been shortened down to 200。 The information regurgitation was so frequent, I ended up skimming a lot of the book。 There was so much hand holding of the reader。 Also, I guessed all the twists before I got midway through the book so that made the story drag on for me。I didn't like any of the characters, except for Polly (and she is bar This book seemed interesting, but it was tough to finish。 A lot of the information just kept being repeated。 To the point where I think this 500+ page book could've been shortened down to 200。 The information regurgitation was so frequent, I ended up skimming a lot of the book。 There was so much hand holding of the reader。 Also, I guessed all the twists before I got midway through the book so that made the story drag on for me。I didn't like any of the characters, except for Polly (and she is barely in the book), but I was more interested in their dynamic。 Unfortunately, since a lot of this book is fact repetition we didn't get to see nearly enough character interaction。 The theme of loneliness is throughout the piece, but it got to the point where I was begging Polly and Jess to just talk to each other。 When they finally did (in the last 50 pages) it was unsatisfying。 The story kept saying, 'this isn't a perfect story or a movie, this is real life', but must you sacrifice a readers enjoyment for bland reality? This could've been written in a much more exciting and intriguing way。 It was the last 100 pages that the story finally picked up。 。。。more

Just Wow。 A page turner。 This years must read! So many twists and turns。 Just when you have it all figured out, it goes in a totally different direction。 Fell in love with all of the characters flaws and all。 I can definitely see this on the big screen。 Loved it。

3。5 Stars This was my first Kate Morton book, and while I liked it, I didn’t love it。 My biggest complaint is the length! I enjoy long books, but only when the information is relevant。 I felt like a lot of descriptions could have been cut down to easily cut this book in half。 Most of the mystery also seemed fairly predictable, and it took some effort to get used to the back and forth writing style。 Again, I usually enjoy multiple points of view, but this book was a little too much。

Kate Morton is back with another beautiful family home, weaving across the decades of a family secret。 I am a massive fan of Morton’s work- her books evoke such a lovely feeling that you are wrapped up in from the start。 Homecoming for me may not be my favourite of her work, but it is still an epic family saga。 With an apparent murder suicide of a whole family at its centre, an estranged daughter and mother, and a grandmother who had her own hopes and dreams, this is family drama with so many la Kate Morton is back with another beautiful family home, weaving across the decades of a family secret。 I am a massive fan of Morton’s work- her books evoke such a lovely feeling that you are wrapped up in from the start。 Homecoming for me may not be my favourite of her work, but it is still an epic family saga。 With an apparent murder suicide of a whole family at its centre, an estranged daughter and mother, and a grandmother who had her own hopes and dreams, this is family drama with so many layers。 I really enjoyed it。 。。。more

This book was good, but it wasn't quite what I was expecting。 Although the event that the mystery focuses around was tragic, it had a gentle, cozy mystery feel to me; not much suspense or surprise。 I really enjoyed the ending, loved the mother and daughter relationships and the scene setting was written beautifully。 I have never been to Australia, but I could imagine the place clearly。However, I found that for me personally, I had seen everything coming that happened, so the mystery part of the This book was good, but it wasn't quite what I was expecting。 Although the event that the mystery focuses around was tragic, it had a gentle, cozy mystery feel to me; not much suspense or surprise。 I really enjoyed the ending, loved the mother and daughter relationships and the scene setting was written beautifully。 I have never been to Australia, but I could imagine the place clearly。However, I found that for me personally, I had seen everything coming that happened, so the mystery part of the book fell pretty flat。 The book didn't really seem to start picking up until the 80% mark, and I feel like it could have been shorter in the chapters before that。 There seemed to be a lot of extra writing and facts in the first two thirds of the book, and it didn't quite seem plot based or character based, but definitely leaned more in the character direction。 I received a copy of the book through Netgalley in exchange for an honest opinion。 。。。more

This is the first book by Kate Morton that I've read, so I wasn't familiar with her style。 The synopsis sounded intriguing so I requested an ARC (thanks @netgalley!)。 The book focuses on Jess, Polly and Nora, and a tragedy that happened in their family in 1959。 Present day timeline is 2018。I really enjoyed the characters of Jess and Nora and to a lesser extent Polly as she was not as fleshed out as the other two。 I felt like I really got to know them and understand what made them tick。 I also lo This is the first book by Kate Morton that I've read, so I wasn't familiar with her style。 The synopsis sounded intriguing so I requested an ARC (thanks @netgalley!)。 The book focuses on Jess, Polly and Nora, and a tragedy that happened in their family in 1959。 Present day timeline is 2018。I really enjoyed the characters of Jess and Nora and to a lesser extent Polly as she was not as fleshed out as the other two。 I felt like I really got to know them and understand what made them tick。 I also loved the descriptions of place and time。 I really saw Tambilla and South Australia in my mind。The mystery aspect of the book was the best part for me。 I thought it was a great mystery with enough complication that I didn't see it all coming。 I figured out one major part of the mystery right off the bat, but the smaller parts and piecing it all together had me guessing to the end。That said, this book is too long。 There is way too much exposition and unnecessary detail in many parts。 Once I got about halfway I just started skimming and skipping pages at a time until she brought the main story back。 I felt that the parts that were the book within a book could have been done differently。 There was so much information in those parts and then some of it was repeated again in a different character's voice。 I think if you're a fan of Kate Morton, you may love this book。 If you're not, personally I'd skip this。 。。。more

Magnificent!! This is a multigenerational family drama/crime novel with multiple twists and turns-it is "not over until it is over"。 The characters are all relatable and the story feels real。 The author uses a technique that I had not seen before with a "true crime novel" inside her novel telling the story of a family from 1959 until 2018 (and who wants a true crime novel about their family!)。 It is a story of lies, deception, estrangement and strong love of your family。 Magnificent!!
